Spanish Blackjack, as part of the Blackjack Gold Series, is unusual to say the least, and this variation has been created by Microgaming, which has a well-known in the industry as a leader in online casino software. It is a game operated with a single-hand on the part of the player, with a random shuffle after each round of play. It is played on a blackjack layout that looks very standard, although you could say that there are many aspects to game that could hardly be characterized as standard.

Spanish Blackjack is played with eight decks of cards, and although the layout has five spaces, only one of them - right in the center - can be used by a player to make bets. Each of the eight decks is comprised of 48 cards, since the tens (10's) have been taken out of every deck.

There are "Bonus 21" hands that pay extra; for example, all five, six and seven-card 21's are Bonus 21 hands, as are three sevens of the same suit, mixed suits, etc.

Like other versions of blackjack games, what you want to do is accumulate a total in your hand that is greater than that of the dealer without going over the total of 21, or to stay under 21 while the dealer exceeds that total (or "busts").

The rules in this eight-deck blackjack game, as mentioned, all the tens have been taken out. The dealer hits soft 17. The house dealer checks the hole card in the event of a ten-value card or Ace as the upcard, and after that the player has the opportunity to make an insurance bet. You are allowed to split pairs up to three times.

There are other rules in Spanish Blackjack that look very appetizing. Player blackjacks (the blackjack being a two-card 21) will always beat a dealer blackjack. This is of course different than what is customary in blackjack. The same goes for other 21's on the part of the player; they will always beat the dealer's total of 21. You can double down on any number of cards, and can also RE-double one time. You can surrender after doubling down. Aces can be re-split, which is another advantage over "regular blackjack," especially as player 21's take priority over the dealer's. You can also double down after splitting Aces.

Another special rule about Spanish Blackjack is that you can take advantage of Late Surrender in Spanish Blackjack; this allows you to give up half your wager on a hand that is unlikely to win, and do it after the dealer checks the hole card for blackjack. This is one of the best rules of Spanish Blackjack.

There is also a very exciting option called "Double Down Rescue," in which you can actually surrender your hand AFTER having doubled down, in effect taking your wager back to its original amount. So if you doubled down with 10 and got a five from the dealer, you can basically erase that double.

In Spanish Blackjack, blackjack pays off at 3-to-2 odds; an insurance bet pays 2-to-1, and the standard wins on the part of the player are even money. There are also bonus wins the player can get.

Here's the way the bonus payout schedule works:
    * A five-card 21 will pay 3-to-2
    * A six-card 21 will pay 2-to-1
    * A 21 made up of seven cards or more pays 3-to-1
    * A 6-7-8 or 7-7-7 of mixed suits pays 3-to-2
    * A 6-7-8 or 7-7-7 of the same suit pays 2-to-1
    * A 6-7-8 or 7-7-7 of spades pays 3-to-1
    * If you have a 7-7-7 of the same suit when the dealer has a seven face-up, it is a 50-to-1 payout

Since this is Microgaming technology at work, you know you're going to have a lot of options to enhance your experience. For example, you can increase the speed of play. There are four different settings - Slow, Medium, Fast and Fastest - and you want to go all the way to the limit, you can get in more action. You also have complete control of the sounds that are available, which is good because some folks like to play in silence.

In short, just about everything you ever wanted to do in a blackjack game but weren't allowed to do before can be realized in Spanish Blackjack in the Gold Series. Give it a shot! To play Spanish Blackjack for free or real money, we recommend that you visit the Microgaming online casinos that have been reviewed and approved by Click Casino.
