Rules for the Casino Game of Baccarat

Baccarat is a popular online casino game that is dictated by a number of rules that control the game and the way it plays out. When certain scenarios occur, there are automatic actions that must be taken after, and in many cases with online casino games, players don’t even need to intervene; they’re compulsory so the software completes the move automatically.
Here are some of the basic rules for the game of Baccarat:
1. The game of baccarat is played with a six-deck or an eight-deck shoe.
2. Face cards and 10s in other games have high ranking, in baccarat they have no face value.
3. Any cards that are less than 10 count as their face value.
4. Aces are worth one.
5. In baccarat suits don’t matter, and only the single digit counts of values matter. For example, if a count is 15 then the first number is dropped and it counts as 5.
6. To start the game the player has three betting options – Banco, Punto or Standoff. Players receive two cards each. The banker receives cards last.
7. Players have the chance to bet on the hand they believe will have the highest total value.
8. A third card can be dealt to the player or the bank, but the three card rule comes into play. These are the choices that happen automatically with online casino games, so it’s hard to make a mistake and players don’t need to memorize these rules.
9. The rules for the third card are different for the player and the banker.
Player's third-card baccarat rule
If either the player or the bank have a total of 8 or 9 on the first two cards no further cards are drawn. The resulting hand is called a natural and the hand is over.
If the player's total is less than or equal to 5 the player's hand draws a third card.
If the player does not draw a third card, then the bank's hand stands on 6 or more and takes a third card on a total of 5 or less. If the player does take a third card then the Bank's third-card-rule below will determine if the bank takes a third card.
Bank's third-card baccarat rule
If the bank's total is 2 or less, bank draws a card, regardless of the players third card.
If the banks total is 3, the bank draws a third card unless the players third card was an 8.
If the banks total is 4, the bank draws a third card unless the players third card was a 0, 1, 8, or 9.
If the banks total is 5, the bank draws a third card if the players third card was 4, 5, 6, or 7.
If the banks total is 6, the bank draws a third card if the players third card was a 6 or 7.
If the banks total is 7, the bank stands.
