The American version of roulette differs from its European counterpart in one very fundamental way, in that there is both a zero (0) and double zero (00) on the roulette wheel. There are also less in the way of proposition bets that are available in the European version.
The American roulette game as it is developed and designed by the people at Real Time Gaming (RTG) is a graphically superior representation of the game that US players have come to know so well. RTG, of course, has long since been known as one of the top online casino software companies in the world.
Getting started with American Roulette from RTG is about the easiest thing you can think of in a casino game. The virtual chip tray is at your left, and you click on one of the four different denominations to establish you basic bet. Then you proceed to the layout and click whatever you want to wager on. Click on it multiple times and your wager will be that amount multiplied by the number of times you click on it. You've got a chance to wager on any number on the wheel, in addition to:
* Street Bets, which cover any set of three numbers in a row on the table.
* Line Bets, which cover a set of six numbers in two adjacent rows on the table.
* Column Bet, covering a whole column of numbers on the table (pays off at 2-to-1).
* Even-Money Bets, where you bet on 18 numbers at once, covering different groupings - by sequence (e.g., 1-8), color (red or black), or odd or even. It's an even money bet.
So get your roulette strategy ready!
If you mouse over the various bets, you will be able to see what the payoffs are, as well as what the maximum bet is. For example, you can mouse over the number 19 on the layout and it will tell you that the odds the number will return are 35-to-1 and that the maximum wager you can put down is $10. If you move over to the line that is between the 19 and 20, you'll find that the odds are 17-to-1, and the maximum bet is $20.
When you mouse over the propositions, like the "1st 12" over the "Even," you will be shown with a yellow outline exactly which numbers that particular bet covers, so you are never in the dark.
This transparency extends itself to the idea of keeping track of which numbers have come out, which is a popular practice among roulette players around the world. At the upper right-hand corner of the interface, you can see which numbers have been already landed in the sequence you're playing. As I am playing at one of the RTG casinos, I can see that I have pulled up seven black numbers and one red number in my first eight attempts. Naturally I can expect a red number to come up next. That's the law of averages, right?
There's no way to be sure about that, but there is never any doubt about your ability to see what number came up on the spin. Not only do you have the numbers board at the top, you also have the long view of the roulette wheel, and a close-up view in an inset.
Roulette is often known as a game for the very wealthy, yet this is a game that is very accessible to low-rollers, since you can play it with a minimum bet of just 25 cents. There is absolutely no reason not to get in on the action! |
