Blackjack is one of the most popular games in the world and it’s one that many types of players have interest in; both those who enjoy games of skill as well as games of luck! Blackjack is a very simple game to learn to play, although there is more skill to have to do it well. Of course, like any popular game, there have been some different variations that have come out, and while some online casino software providers have put a twist on the classic games, there have been some differences that come about just based on the rules of the game.
As with many casino games, there have simply been some different rules of the games that have derived in different countries. As often happens, Blackjack is one game that can be found at online casinos with both American Blackjack rules or European Blackjack rules. The variations between the two sets of rules are fairly simple, but players may still have their preferences so when you’re searching online for a game to play, be aware what you want to look for!
You’ll notice one difference as soon as the cards are dealt. Normally, at the start of the game, players will have two face-up cards and the Dealer will have one face-up card and one “hole” card (faced down). In European Blackjack, the hole card isn’t dealt until after the player makes his or her play (whether to hit or to stand, deciding if he/she should split the cards or double down the bet, etc).
And speaking of doubling down, another difference is the limitation on certain wagers. In European Blackjack, you are only allowed to double a bet on a hand that totals 9, 10 or 11. To make it easier, the “Double” button is only available to push when it meets those criteria.
The last change in RTG’s version of European Blackjack affects the Dealer. In most of its blackjack games, the Dealer is required to hit on a soft 17. In this European Blackjack game, the Dealer will stand on a soft 17. This takes the unpredictable nature of this game and levels it out a bit since the fate of the player is determined that much sooner.
Take a jump across the pond and play European Blackjack at the following casinos.
